So, you've decided to try traveling solo ‐ that's great! Solo travel is a great way to see more of the world on your own terms. But that doesn't mean you have to be completely solo the entire time. Here are five ways you can meet people when you're traveling solo.
Stay at a hostel
Sure, you can stay in a hotel, but it won't be as social as a hostel. In a hostel, you have travelers from all over the world hanging out, eating, and sleeping together (in the room, I mean!) They have activities within the hostel to help people connect with one another as well.
Learn some local lingo
If you want to meet some locals, then learn some of the local languages. You don't need to become fluent, but before traveling, download Duolingo or another language app to help you out with the basics.
Download a travel app
Apps are another great way to connect with other travelers and locals. Whether you want a night out on the town or would like to find someone to hitchhike with you, travel apps will help connect you to the right people.
Join a tour group
If you want to meet people, then another great option is to join a tour group. You don't know who you'll meet, but the one thing is you're all there sharing the same experience. This is a great way to bond with other people as you have a base to work off of.
Don't try to meet people
Of course, you should be open-minded and approachable. But, don't force it when meeting new people. There will be some you click with and others you won't. Put yourself out there, but don't force friendships on people. Let it come naturally. Traveling solo is a lot of fun, but it's always nice to meet new people along the way.
